There is a lot of misleading advice on how to flatten your belly that I come across, even from respected trainers. They talk about diet foods that directly target the Abs, but this isn’t possible.

You can directly target the Abs with exercise, this tightens up the muscles, and may even make your waist measurement increase if the muscles grow in size.
Belly fat is the same as any other fat on your body, so to reduce it, your whole body fat percentage as a whole must be reduced. There is no non-surgical way to target one specific area of fat on your body.
Wouldn’t it be great if we could just do stomach crunches daily for a month and have a slim waist whilst we are still over-weight. But unfortunately, it doesn’t work this way.
You can quickly reduce your waist measurement by tightening up previously flabby muscles, but the fat will still be present. Strengthening of the core muscles is a good idea, it helps you to avoid injury and back pain. But it’s not that great for burning fat. For this you have to eat well, and exercise your whole body.
If you look at the bodies of slim people, you may notice that they don’t have six pack abs, but rather, an overall low-fat body.
So the answer to the question of how to flatten your belly is to lose fat through general diet and exercise.
